Shower Testing and Regrind
How we found a hidden shower leak in Booker Bay and fixed it with a regrind solution.
Background
The homeowner at Booker Bay noticed water around their 1×1 shower base and was concerned about water damage. Previous inspections hadn’t found the source, so they called us in to investigate and fix.
Inspection and Diagnosis
Our plumbers did a series of tests to find the issue. Flood tests, thermal imaging and moisture readings showed the shower base was leaking. Other tests, pressure and spindle tests passed, but the spray test was inconclusive.
We provided a detailed report with recommendations so the homeowner knew exactly what was causing the problem and how to fix it.
Our Fix
With the source found, we regrinded the shower base:
- Removed old sealants and grout with a die grinder
- Applied a grey epoxy layer to create a watertight base
- Installed flexible sealant along the wall-floor junction as a secondary seal to allow for movement
This epoxy and flexible sealant combo is long-lasting and reduces the risk of future leaks.Â
We made sure the base was fully prepared so the epoxy adhered properly and considered any inconclusive test results to make sure the repair addressed all potential weak points.
Result
The shower base is now sealed and protected. The homeowner has peace of mind knowing the leak was found and fixed with quality materials. We gave them advice on drying time and ongoing care to keep the shower going well for years to come.
