Shower Regrind and Reseal – Randwick
A quick fix for a leaking shower base in a Randwick apartment.
Inspection and Diagnosis
Once the shower was cleaned and dry, we inspected the base and wall junctions. The main issue was grout and sealant failure along the floor line, and water was settling under the tiles. The structure was sound, so a targeted repair was the way to go.
Our Process
We removed all old grout and sealants with a die grinder to prepare the surface properly. After cleaning the base, we applied a grey epoxy coating to create a strong, watertight barrier. We installed a flexible sealant at the wall and floor junction to provide a secondary seal and absorb minor building movement.
Challenges
Older showers can reveal hidden problems once the old grout is removed. In this case, the base was good enough that no wall work was required, but we still checked each section as we went.
Outcome
The shower base is now fully sealed and coated with a durable epoxy to prevent water from escaping. The owner was happy to have the leak fixed quickly and without a full renovation. We gave them guidance on drying time and long-term care to keep the repair performing well.
